Cyber Warfare: The Impending Battle
HOUSTON, TX – July 17, 2009 Battles of the future may be fought in cyberspace, and Lt. General Harry D. Raduege, Jr. will explain what the United States should be doing about it when he speaks at a World Affairs Council reception on Thursday, July 30.
The new administration has cyber security high on its agenda and the recent cyber attacks against South Korean and United States government websites emphasized the importance of a cyber defense policy.
“America's economic prosperity in the 21st century will depend on cybersecurity,” President Barack Obama said in a recent speech.
From individual hacktivists targeting web pages of Iran's leadership to governments sanctioning cyber warfare on their enemies, cyber security will become increasingly important to our economy and national security.
Lt. General Harry D. Raduege, Jr., USAF (Ret.) serves as the co-chairman for the Center for Strategic and International Study Commission on Cybersecurity for the 44th Presidency. The Commission released a report in December 2008, which included 25 recommendations for President Obama to consider, and more importantly, stressed the need for a comprehensive national strategy to secure cyberspace. General Raduege is chairman of the Deloitte Center for Network Innovation and serves as a senior counselor to The Cohen Group.
Prior to his work at Deloitte, Raduege served for 35 years in the U.S. military, working in telecommunications, space, information and network operations. In his last position, he led Department of Defense netcentric operations as the director of the Defense Information Systems Agency. He also was commander of the Joint Task Force for Global Network Operations, deputy commander for Global Network Operations and Defense for the U.S. Strategic Command, and manager of the National Communications System. He was the architect for the computer network defense and attack capabilities at the Department of Defense, and led efforts to restore communications to the Pentagon following the September 11 attacks.
