Recurring Questions

Q: How do you chose programs?

A: Speakers and topics are selected by us in Houston through program officers and directors. Our choice depends on (a) a topic of current interest - a current one or a historical one with current appeal, (b) a topic of an appeal broad enough to attract members and public, (c) a presenter of stature and ability, (d) a rough balance in the overall schedule among regions, subjects positions, and aspects - like politics, history, economics, and culture. Suggestions are always welcome at programs@wachouston.org.
The Council takes no institutional positions, rather it presents views of others for education and discussion.

Q: What does the Council do with member information?

A: We do not sell, trade, or otherwise release member information to third parties.

Q: Who supports the Council?

A: Memberships - institutional and individual - are our principal support. Foundations also support Educational Outreach. Program revenue and contributions are part of our resources. The Council receives no governmental funds.

Q: What is Education Outreach?

A:
The Council's Education Outreach serves secondary and college students as well as secondary teachers. We include students and teachers in our programs, often paying for the buses. We have speakers lead foreign-language lunches at schools. We offer seminars for teachers on international politics and economics. We compile lesson plans on international topics.  Please contact edu@wachouston.org for information or support.

"World Affairs Councils have served our nation by educating our public and stimulating informed debate on the complex issues we face. With the Cold War ended and a new era upon us your role as citizens is even more important. As we seek to meet the challenges of this momentous period of change, I congratulate all of you for this important work."

Bill Clinton, 42nd President of the United States
