Houston Museum of Natural Science - Wiess Energy Hall
Visit the world's most sophisticated and comprehensive energy exhibit! The Wiess Energy Hall explores the application of scientific concepts and advanced technology in the oil and gas industry. Explore the entire process of energy development, from how oil and natural gas are formed to the ways in which various types of energy are used. The hall incorporates interactive learning methods such as computer graphics, touch screens, holographic video displays, and virtual reality.
Offshore Energy Center
Less than an hour from downtown Houston, the world's petroleum capital, the Offshore Energy Center (OEC) operates its state-of-the-art facility, the Ocean Star. Visitors step on board, tour the completely refurbished jack up drilling rig, and absorb the day-to-day excitement of offshore drilling and production, marine transportation, environmental protection, construction, and pipelining - all experienced through three decks of videos, equipment exhibits and interactive displays. It's a museum, educational attraction and working drilling rig all rolled into one.
East Texas Oil Museum
Welcome to the East Texas Oil Museum, located on the campus of Kilgore College in Kilgore, Texas. This fascinating museum houses the authentic re-creation of oil discovery and production in the early 1930s from the largest oil field inside U.S. boundaries. Here, visitors see the people, their towns, their personal habits, their tools and their pastimes – all colorfully depicted in dioramas, movies, sound presentations and actual antiques donated by East Texas citizens.
Panhandle Plains Historical Museum - Oil and Gas
The Don D. Harrington Petroleum Wing exhibits spotlight the oil field workers whose sweat and blood transformed scrubby ranchlands into oil-soaked “patches” bristling with drilling rigs. It tells the story of the oil boom years in the Texas Panhandle during the 1920s and the 1930s and of the men who made it happen. Two floors of exhibits spotlight the petroleum industry.
The Petroleum Museum is divided into three wings, each illustrating one of the three aspects of our story: Geological, Technical, and Cultural. The Museum has since added a new wing dedicated to sharing the connection between petroleum and transportation.
Explore the fascinating world of petroleum science from the formation of oil to the geology surrounding it. Discover the beginnings of the Texas oil industry as historical characters share their adventures of the great Spindletop Gusher of 1901. Interactive exhibits depict the unique history oil exploration, production and refining.
