Energy in the 21st Century: A Bright or a Dark Future?
Claude Baudoin, Schlumberger

How long will our oil and gas reserves last...and does it matter? Many economics professors (and a few scientists) have written about their theories.
Some predict a World War III triggered by competition for oil in ten years, others talk about "bottomless" reserves. And some people say that if we just turn lights off at night, and drive hybrid cards, we'll be fine. Beyond the hype, what are the facts? This talk will cover where energy comes from and where it is consumed, how this balance has been evolving, and what seems to be in store for the world in the next decades.

Energy Geopolitics
Bruce Misamore, former CFO of YUKOS Oil in Russia
Russia and the Caspian Sea region are important to world energy markets because they hold large reserves of undeveloped oil and natural gas.

In order to fully utilize these resources several challenges need to be addressed - an accurate assessment of the region's resources, rivalries between regional and international powers, domestic ethnic conflicts, and lack of appropriate export routes. Misamore will discuss how these geopolitics will play out and affect the world.

Bruce Misamore
joined YUKOS in 2001 with over 23 years of prior experience working with large multinational integrated and independent petroleum companies. Before joining YUKOS, Misamore workred for PennzEnergy Company, Pennzoil, and Marathon Oil where he had various responsibilities including international finance. Misamore received his bachelor's degree in finance from Bowling Green State University in Ohio in 1972, and his master's degree in finance from Bowling Green in 1973.

Claude Baudoin

He has an Engineer degree from Ecole Polytechnique in Paris, and a master's degree in Computer Science from Stanford University. "The dogmas of the quiet past are inadequate to the stormy present. The occasion is piled high with difficulty, and we must rise with the occasion. As our case is new, so we must think anew, and act anew. We must disenthrall ourselves, and then we shall save our country."
Lincoln's Second Annual Message to Congress, December 1, 1862.
