Students are invited to participate in the Teach Africa Youth Forum with travel brochures, cultural studies or performance, or country posters. Prizes will be awarded for the most outstanding projects.
1. BlogSpot
Encourage your students to become Africa bloggers. They can share their Africa stories, fun-facts, and discoveries on our blogspot: http://teachafricahouston.blogspot.com/ Selected entries will be shared at the Youth Forum.
2. Travel Brochure Students can create a travel brochure for an African country. They must include relevant historical, cultural or geographical sites. The brochure must include graphics and be well-organized.
Guidelines - The brochure should have a cover page that includes the title or country, the student’s name, the school, and the teacher’s name. - The brochure must be more than one page. 3. Cultural Performance or Study Students can profile an African culture, tribe or people. They must describe the unique cultural traits: style of dress, belief systems, greetings, music, and celebrations in a short essay or through a presentation (dance, song, music etc). The Council can supply worksheets to help. Student groups preparing cultural presentations must notify the Council in advance in order to perform at the forum. 4. Analysis of an African Folk Tale Students select an African folk tale to study. 5. Poster Contest Students may choose an African country of their choice. They are asked to present the country's: history, culture, geography, and societal systems (government, religion, economic base) Presentation: - All information should be displayed on one side of the poster board. - Students must use a 3-fold cardboard display - Include on back of poster: student’s name, school, and teacher
The poster should be neat, colorful, and eye catching - A bibliography MUST be attached to the back of the poster - This is an INDIVIDUAL competition.
