This volunteer mentor opportunity supports the students in career development. The first undergraduate class of American University of Afghanistan in Kabul, which enrolled in 2006, enters its senior year with plans for graduation in spring 2010.
The Young Professionals of the World Affairs Council of Houston have a unique opportunity to serve as a mentor to undergraduates in their junior or senior years.
Please fill out the mentor application and submit by August 14th to ypg@wachouston.org
The mentor program will take place primarily through email. It will begin with an optional group videoconference introduction to take place in September, where the organizations and its members will present themselves.
Young professionals with various fields of interest will be matched with an AUAF student seeking to develop a career within that field. The mentor and student will independently communicate, primarily via email, and exchange resumes, questions, and discussions about career development in the field. The mentor will provide guidance on educational and professional paths to pursue.
Additionally following monthly or bimonthly videoconferences may provide the opportunity for students to present what they have learned about particular professional fields and to receive feedback from the young professionals.
